Wash before use. Pretty color.Love the look of the fire passing through and reflecting off the flames. This fire glass really adds to the ambience in our back yardI did a lot of research here on Amazon reading through various reviews of different glass types for our new fire pit. It seemed that American Fireglass had the most consistently good reviews so we went that route. Also people who got ¼" glass sometimes said they were too small, so we ended up going ½". I also wanted the reflective mirror surface on one side to help bounce the light around.I read some fire glass just came loose in the shipping box and/or wasn't tumbled for safety as the description said. I think those people may have ordered from a vendor that may have swapped out authentic American Fireglass with some cheaper stuff. I can say that Amazon's fulfillment here for this item was the real deal. American Fireglass in a sealed thick bag, inside of a box, which in turn was inside the shipping box. And the pieces were tumbled pretty smooth. I spread out 50lbs of fire glass into our pit with my bare hands and was not cut at all. That said, probably safest to use gloves. Found 90% of the pieces were in the proper ½" size range specified. There were a few smaller pieces and a few larger pieces but most of it was the correct size.Looked great in the pan during the daylight. When night came and I fired up the fire pit (propane powered), it was good but not great. By that I mean that despite the mirrored surface (which is supposed to bounce light around more) there wasn't much color to be seen. The great cobalt blue (which looks just like the pictures suggest) just isn't as prominent at night as I had hoped. Maybe it is the color. Maybe a lighter color would have helped. Not sure but that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Still, got a good price and it works as specified. No discoloration, no pops or anything like some of the things other have reported for some of the lower-quality fire glass. I expect this to last many, many years problem free.BeautifulOne bag was just enough to cover out Hampton bay fireplace from Home Depot. The opening is 19”x19”. I added a screen on top of the lava rock and placed the glass on the screen. Worked out well so far. This looks just like it's advertised (the copper coloration). This review is mostly preliminary because I haven't had a chance to run the propane firepit with it yet and determine how well it holds up over time. One complaint about this product I would make is that it's sold by weight with no indication of volume. A 10 lb box of 1/2" sounds like a lot, but it's really about enough volume to fit a medium sized shoe box.My Rhino/BlueFlame fire table came with lava rocks and three ceramic "logs" which sat on top of a metal "grilling" grate. I took off the logs and the grate. I left the lava rocks in as a base (I already own them and they take up a lot of volume). I managed to mostly cover the rocks with a single 10 lb bag but it really isn't enough -- you can still see some lava rocks and the burner in the center is completely exposed. I'm going to order another 10 lb bag which I think will be enough for cosmetics, but I think on this fire table to fill the entire volume of the fire bowl to the lip would probably take 4-6 bags.I've purchased 20 pounds of 1/2 inch American Fireglass fire pit glass in a different color to fill a new pit, So, the moment I pulled this product out of the box, I could tell that something wasn't right. At first I thought I had been shipped the 1/4 inch size by mistake, but upon opening the bag I could see that there were some 1/2 inch pieces. Unfortunately, my 5 pound package contained over 2 pounds of dangerously small and sharp pieces of glass chips and glass dust. If I hadn't needed the extra glass to enhance the look of our fire pit for a party we were having, I would have returned it. I still gave this product two stars because the color was beautiful and exactly what I wanted and because the pieces that were actually 1/2 inch glass were a nice variety of shapes and perfectly smooth. If not for the issue with the 2 pounds of worthless dangerous crap, it would have been a 5 star purchase. I ordered two 5 pound bags, and would have been able to share if the condition of this particular bag was fluke, except the second bag did not arrive as promised and is still in transit. So this purchase was a double disappointment. I've already initiated the return on that package, since I could have saved money by ordering a 10 pound package, if I had been willing to wait a few extra days for it to arrive, which I was not.The quality of this product exceeded our expectation. Our 1920s bungalow had a tired and worn fireplace that hadn't seen use in decades and it would have taken a great deal of money to recondition it for standard insert or wood burning use.. After a lot of research, we opted to purchase a simple biofuel insert, but were afraid it would look pretty boring, lost, and bland without something around it to provide a more cohesive look. This reflective fire glass was the perfect accessory! It glistens, shines, and sparkles in a lovely manner understated manner, as the firelight dances above it. You will not regret this purchase. The quality/quantity for the price is unbeatable. You may wish to note, that if you are using this in a standard fireplace, you will need at least (2) packages (20 lbs) worth, to obtain full coverage in the firebox floor. We bought this fire glass to replace the rather dull looking lava rock that came with our propane firepit and it looks beautiful. It did take us a while to get the firepit working with it because unlike the lava rock if you just layer it in then it can prevent air circulation and the gas will not stay alight. To get ours working correctly and to reduce the amount of glass we needed, we purchased a sheet of wire mesh that we cut and placed on the firepit for the glass to go on. This works really well and allows the air to vent correctly and reduces the amount of glass we needed.Although I purchased this from America the service from Amazon was excellent. The glass arrived quicker than expected and their policy for paying the import tax upfront avoids any additional cost. Furthermore, if the tax is more then Amazon pay the difference, whilst if it is less then you receive a refund - well done Amazon.Although the glass is pricey it certainly improved the look of our gas fireplace. I removed the old ceramic logs replacing them with the glass and have had numerous compliments.Everything I expected
