This handy guide was written at the request of Bob Miller and Wallace-Homestead, a division of Chilton. Bob had been the author of general-line price guides and DoRi was asked to expand the book so it was only pattern glass. Although written in 1986, at the time it had the latest info on Early American Pressed Glass patterns. Pieces listed are mostly those DoRi Miles, the author, owned or knew actually existed and she gives tips from observations in her experience since 1960 as a professional EAPG dealer. It includes a list of alternate names used for patterns.Photographs are black/white from the Houston Museum collection in Chatanooga TN. Prices are given in a range for the most part still pertinent for insurance purposes. DoRi offers a plan where you can update the historical info, especially maker and date. Because it's in alphabetical order by pattern name, when used with Mollie McCain's Field Guide to Pattern Glass, it gives the collector and dealer the best basic combination so you don't have to invest in shelves of books on antique pressed glass. McCain uses computer drawings and arranges the book by motif, such as flowers, circles, people, plants, etc., so you can first find the pattern by motif, then check the info using the W-H, such a good seller it was reprinted.
