I drink tea at least twice a day and was looking for an all-glass kettle. The hard water where we live kills metal kettles and their plastic components within a few months of use. Also, I am trying to get away from using plastics as much as possible.I have to say that many of the things that other customers DO NOT like are the very reasons this kettle works so well for me!!1. No Whistle - If I'm that distracted that I need a whistle I shouldn't be having the stove on unattended, especially since I have young children in the house. And with young children, the last thing I want is a loud whistle waking them from their naps.2. Security of lid - Some reviewers mentioned wanting a lid that was somehow secured because theirs falls off every time they pour. I was taught to hold the lid of a water kettle every time I pour, even when it seems secure. My mom would call this "proper" ;) , lol. The plastic knob on top allows me to apply pressure on it as I pour; this is second nature to me and I'd never pour any other way even if it was secured.3. Size of lid - The lid fits very well. The only way I could imagine it fitting any tighter would be for there to be a plastic gasket placed between the metal and the glass. More plastic is precisely what I am trying to avoid. Plus, a tighter fit almost seems as if it would be a safety hazard. If pressure were to build up inside, a tighter lid could shoot off. The little bit of give in the lid allows the pressure to escape without any explosive outcomes. This lid fits just as well as any other kettle lid I've ever owned.4. Handle - I've had NO issues with my handle at all. I generally fill my kettle only about 3/4 of the way up, similar to the stock photo, and I have large hands. While the handle is slim in profile it's about 3/4 inch wide, larger than most mug handles that I have. The handle in the Adagio stock photo seems to sit lower than the one on my kettle. They may have changed the placement of the handle due to this being an issue for other customers.5. Size - Some have suggested this kettle should be 25% bigger. I disagree mainly because the larger the kettle the heavier. Any kettle larger would be quite difficult to lift. If I need to boil more than 8 cups of water I would just use a large pot.6. Fragility - It's GLASS. Glass is fragile. I wouldn't expect anything made of glass to withstand any amount of force. The box does say it's dishwasher safe but I'd be sure not to place anything next to it. I handwash mine with a rag to help maintain it as long as possible. I also don't put the kettle with cold water on a high heat setting, I usually start it on low for a few minutes and tack it up to med, then med-high. So far I've had no cracks, but if I did I'd attribute it to heat stress fractures as the glass seems like typical lab grade glass that must be treated the same way.Personal Pros - As opposed to metal kettles, I really like that no matter what I boil in the glass that it'll be non-reactive. Some teas can be quite acidic and with the glass I can actually brew tea right in the kettle without worrying about corrosion or metal flavors leaking into my fancy teas. ALSO, I'm a bit of a clean freak and I can tell when there is anything built up inside very easily. Super easy to clean, since there are no seams, typical in metal kettles.Overall, I am very very pleased with this glass kettle. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want metal flavors in their teas, anyone who appreciates a beautiful piece that functions well, and to anyone who appreciates getting to see what's happening inside pots when they're cooking.
